According to a report by the Daily Star, researchers from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine have said that a total of 5.8 million people will die in Europe between 2015 and 2099. This study only includes deaths that will occur due to climate change. They say that the number of deaths due to heat will be higher than those due to cold. Barcelona will be the place where most deaths will occur due to heat, with Rome, Naples and Madrid following close behind. Dr Pierre Masselot, the lead author of the study, said that the findings of his report highlight the need for immediate action on climate change and increasing heat.
